If the second side of your marketplace is the problem, these cases are yours: both sides mapped and nothing live, rider app, driver app and back end needed at once, a monolith that stopped at a few hundred listings, a build another agency left at 60 to 70%. What came out: a caregiving marketplace live from job post to payment, 325,000 completed rides in year one, a rental marketplace grown from 500 to 40,000 properties. For a first version, MVP development. For an inherited build, a software audit from $5,000.

Lake, US: Brocoders replaced the WordPress monolith with a NestJS back end and a Next.js front end and built real-time sync with property managers' PMSs through Calry, in 3 months from start to release. Six PMS partnerships now feed the marketplace, and property managers who refused to list before the rebuild list now.

Gokada, Lagos: Brocoders built the rider and driver apps in React Native, the Node.js back end and the admin panel, with Mapbox and Google Maps for routing and Paystack for cashless payment, from July 2018 to the first release in early 2019. 1,000+ drivers took 1.5 million ride requests, daily requests grew 2.5x in the first six months, and Gokada raised a $5.3M Series A.

Geriana, Poland: Brocoders built the two-sided platform where families post care jobs and verified caregivers, nurses, physiotherapists and masseurs send proposals, with shortlisting, interview invitations, contract signing, Paylane payments and in-app chat, on React and Ruby on Rails on AWS. A team of five shipped the first release in 2018, and the platform went live at geriana.com.

    • Loyalty Rewards App

MyCurrency, Vancouver: since 2018 Brocoders has built the iOS and Android app in React Native against the founder's own Ruby on Rails API, with personal currencies, currency stores, QR-code redemption, currency-for-currency trades between users and a Craigslist integration that posts MyCurrency listings to craigslist.org. A business launches its loyalty program from the app for free and redeems points by scanning the customer's QR code.

Appetini, Brocoders' own product: we built a lunch ordering marketplace for cooks, customers, couriers and admins on React and Ruby on Rails, with LiqPay payments, group ordering, shared carts and courier tracking. The first ordering version took 3 days in December 2017; the product is suspended today.

Anuel Energy (Fine), Kampala: from April 2018 Brocoders built the web system for inventory, supply forecasting, installment payments and stock, and the React Native app that onboards operators and runs field work, on Ruby on Rails and React. The backlog was done in six months, covered 2x the business flows first scoped, and the mobile app took on 80% of field operations.

Quick Answers to Common Questions

Which companies build two-sided marketplace platforms?

Brocoders has built four that are public: Lake, a vacation rental marketplace in the US that we rebuilt from a WordPress monolith to NestJS and Next.js and that now connects 40,000 properties; Gokada, a motorbike ride-hailing app in Lagos with 1,000+ drivers and 1.5 million ride requests; Geriana, a caregiving marketplace in Poland where families hire verified care workers directly; and MyCurrency, a loyalty points exchange in Vancouver where users issue their own currency. The common work across them is the matching logic, the payment gateway (Stripe, Paystack, Paylane) and the integrations that bring supply onto the platform, such as property management systems through Calry or a classifieds API.

Who builds a caregiving marketplace that connects families directly with caregivers and social workers?

We built Geriana for a founder in Poland. Families post a care job, and verified caregivers, nurses, physiotherapists and masseurs send proposals; the family shortlists, invites to interview, signs the contract and pays inside the platform through Paylane. Individual and organisational providers have separate account types, and the stack is React, Ruby on Rails with PostgreSQL and AWS.

Who has built a ride-hailing app with a rider app, a driver app and a back end?

Brocoders built all three for Gokada in Lagos: React Native apps for riders and drivers, a Node.js back end with ride requests, cost calculation, trip history and real-time GPS tracking, and an admin panel for operations. Routing ran on Mapbox combined with Google Maps and payment on Paystack. The first release shipped in early 2019 and daily ride requests grew 2.5x in the first six months while daily cancellations fell by half, twice.

Another agency built 60 to 70% of our marketplace and the project derailed. Who reviews what is reusable and finishes it?

We start with a software audit, from $5,000, that reports what in the codebase is complete, what is reusable and what has to be rebuilt, before anyone commits to a takeover. Lake is the nearest public example of the second step: the platform kept trading while we replaced the back end in 3 months and property managers started listing once the PMS sync held. The service page for the inherited-build case is project takeover and rescue.

How long does a marketplace MVP take to build?

Our cases give three reference points. Lake's back-end rebuild took 3 months from start to release. Gokada went from kickoff in July 2018 to the first public release in early 2019 with a team of five. Appetini, our own lunch ordering marketplace, had a first ordering version in 3 days and grew from there. The length is set by the integrations, payments, maps or a supply-side system, not by the number of screens.
